Experience entering Cambodia
Hey guys.
I know that I never use this blog.. so I wanted to give it a shot!
I wanted to post about my experience getting into Cambodia.
I didn't want hassles so I paid the 750 thai baht ($21-ish) and took the bus that takes you across the border from Mo-Chit north Bangkok terminal to Siem Reap.. which I guess could have ben much cheaper (450 baht) from Khao Song road.Oh well I didn't know then..
So yeah I went to the Chattuchat giant Mo Chit weekend market near the Mo Chi north bus terminal.
I was lucky to make some local artist friends who watched my big backpack for me while I went around the crowded market and then even drove me to the bus station!
Once I got to the bus station I had VIP security guard welcome and was allowed to place my luggage in the eldery and disabled sleeping area. Met an older thai guy who had lived in the streets who was very kind and helpful. Walked around the terminal and was sleepless. Posted up in a quieter dark place where another security guide was that watched me browse the internet. Tried to fall asleep but there was a 3 am wake up call and lights on.. movement starting for ultra early morning busses.
I wasn't pleased because I was becoming tired. I found out the only direct bus was at 9:30am so I had a lot of time to wait.. and sleep. So I went back to the disabled area and got some zzs. There was of course disturbance of people waking up and security wanting me to move.
When we got on the bus I met a nice Australian girl and Irish guy. Chatted it up a bit. Slept a lot. Got the border and there was a big casino where I could use the toilet. I didn't have a photo for my visa and there was a motorbike tukuk scam to go to the photo store and get one. I decided against that and paid $3 for one photo (which is still a rip off but you kinda have to if you dont have one I think).
Got thru the border. More sleep and comfort on this bus that waits for you outside the casino.
Got dropped outside of Siem Reap. There was a free tuktuk ride scam. I wasn't impressed but we paid maybe .75 cents to get taken to our respective hostel, mine being "Hangover Hostel" which I actually thoroughly enjoyed. Minus the prowling prostitutes it was a good vibe. They were also nice though.
So yea that was my experience gettin' to Cambodia. Thanks for reading ~
